Associate Professor Rhiannon Dickerson joined the College as the general education manager in the summer of 2019. She received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa’s prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Missouri.

For over a decade, Dickerson taught in the Communication Studies department at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Most recently, Dickerson served as coordinator for discourse where she integrated the social justice curriculum into general education. She founded the Social Justice Scholars Award which highlights student scholarship and works towards creating culturally competent students.

Dickerson is the founder and chair of Educate-Organize-Advocate, an entirely volunteer-led city-wide social justice conference held at UMKC each fall. She was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Embracing Diversity in 2018.

In addition to her diversity work, Dickerson has served on numerous committees throughout her professional career including assessment, general education, anti-racism, and the university writing and reading board. As an academic, Dickerson considers her community work a vital part of her service and is a proud member of the Kansas Missouri Dream Alliance as well as Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation.
