Assistant Professor Sharon White-Lewis joined the faculty at Saint Luke’s College in 2012. She earned an MSN from Webster University, a BSN from Webster in 2008, and a Diploma in Nursing from the Research School of Nursing in 1979. She is pursuing a doctorate at the University of Kansas City-Missouri.
She was the director of nursing at Sabates Eye Center and taught health law coursework at the University of Mary. She has worked in various clinical and supervisory capacities at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Miami County Medical Center, Olathe Medical Center, and Research Medical Center.
Her clinical experience includes Neonatal Intensive Care, Surgery, GI Lab, Emergency Room, Pre-op, and Pacu. She opened an ambulatory surgery center which was then accredited by CMS. She has also been an educator for over 20 years in professional development and as a surgical educator.
Sharon had the unique opportunity of developing a new surgical procedure in laparoscopic surgeries and taught it in 11 countries around the world; meeting nurses from all walks of life. She is published in three languages and has invented surgical instruments used today. One of her accomplishments is clinical research in robotics including the use of free-standing robots for educational purposes. She has given 17 presentations at conferences in the United States, and 20 presentations at conferences internationally in Italy, France, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Mexico, and Luxembourg. She has published six scholarly articles in medical journals and written textbook entries for two textbooks.
She belongs to the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), the Association for Professional in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC), the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGA/SGNA), and was founder and president of the Society of Laparoscopic Associates in 1992 the United States and Mexico
