Supporting equality, inclusion and mutual respect

Dear Students and College Community,

First and foremost, I want to welcome you back to Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences. Once again, I thank our students, their parents and their significant others for entrusting Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences with your education. I hope this new academic year is full of wonderful surprises and much success.  To our faculty and staff, my appreciation for your work and commitment to our institution.

The past several weeks have been extremely difficult. Just this weekend, many families have lost loved ones and others have lost everything due to the inclement weather. We pray for those that were affected by the hurricane and storms and wish for the prompt rebuilding of their communities.

You are aware of the horrible incidents that took place at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. As many other College and Universities Presidents have publicly expressed, I also stand with my colleagues across the country to condemn the violence, hatred, and racism carried out by supremacist groups. On behalf of the Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences family, we stand in solidarity with those who were affected by the violence and offer our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

The well-being of our College students, faculty, staff, and alumni remain my priority. Acts like those perpetuated at the University of Virginia cannot be tolerated, especially in an institution of higher learning. Our commitment is to building community. Therefore, I ask that we all reflect on these issues and continue to make Saint Luke’s College a place that welcomes academic discourse and freedom of speech, but most importantly welcomes, protects and supports mutual respect and a diverse body of students, faculty, staff and administration.

As I have reiterated, we are a wonderful institution that respects and protects our principles of diversity and inclusion. In doing so, we stand in solidarity with the University of Virginia and the community of Charlottesville.

As always, thank you for believing in Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences.
