New associate dean deals in disasters

(Keuka Park, NY) – Professor April Haberyan, Ph.D. and the new associate dean of graduate programs at St. Luke’s College recently lead Disaster Family Assistance Specialist Certification Training to 70 disaster responders at Keuka College, Keuka Park, NY.

Dr. Haberyan joins St. Luke’s College of Health Sciences from Northwest Missouri State University where she was a Professor of Psychology and Disaster and Emergency Management Response Programs. She is a trainer with The Consortium for Humanitarian Service and Education. Her expertise is in suicide prevention and intervention, higher education threat assessment, school crisis intervention, and crisis and emergency planning.   Her training includes work with the Macedonian military, and victim assistance and emergency responders in Canada. 

Her current work supports the Response Division of Disaster Management International, Little Rock, AR, an international disaster response and family assistance organization responsible for aviation, education, government, maritime and oil/gas industries.  

Dr. Haberyan earned her Master’s of Arts and Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Master’s of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from the University of Rochester School of Nursing in 1992.
