Dean Named Educator of the Year

Dean of Health Sciences Karla Bruntzel, PhD, ATC, LAT has been named the recipient of the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Athletic Training Educator of the Year. The association is made up of members from seven states in the Midwest.

This award is given annually to an educator who shows excellence in promoting athletic training education by demonstrating significant contributions to the education of Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association’s Athletic members, students in the classroom, clinical education of students, development of an educational program, or through academic presentations and published work that will enhance the athletic training profession.

Since Bruntzel’s fall 2016 appointment at the College, she has been instrumental in developing allied health programs which are under review by the Higher Learning Commission.

Before coming to the College, Bruntzel was at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri where she served as a professor, chair of the Division of Health Sciences, and dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. She has extensive teaching and leadership experience in higher education holding previous positions as director of athletic training education and coordinator of health professions program at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. She was the head athletic trainer/instructor and director of athletic training education at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
