RN-BSN Transfer of Credit Policy and Guidelines 

Transferability of credits from Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences to other institutions would be at the discretion of the receiving institution.
 
Transfer of Credit for General Education Coursework
Transfer credit may be granted for coursework completed at another college or university or through credit for prior learning or credit by exam under the following conditions:
  • The student must have earned a minimum grade of C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for the course to be transferred.
  • The college or university from which the course was transferred must be accredited by agencies recognized by Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences.
  • Graduates of accredited degree programs and diploma graduates can expect to receive transfer credit for up to 36 hours for previous nursing education.
  • The college or university from where the courses were transferred from must be accredited by agencies recognized by SLCHS.
Transfer of Credit for Nursing Coursework
Transfer credit may be granted for coursework completed at another college or university or through credit for prior learning or credit by exam under the following conditions:
  • The transfer courses will be evaluated by the program director before acceptance of the student into the RN-BSN program.
  • The student must have earned a minimum grade of C (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for the course to be transferred. The college or university from which the course was transferred must be accredited by agencies recognized by Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences.
  • The graduates of accredited degree programs and diploma graduates can expect to receive transfer credit for up 36 hours for previous nursing education.
Pass or Credit
A maximum of six semester hours of pass or credit will be accepted for general education coursework completed at a regionally accredited college.
 
Credit for courses completed for pass will be granted for any general education requirement if verification that the grade would have been C or better is provided.
 
Credit for courses completed for pass without verification of C or better grade will be granted for the following courses: history, government or economics; social/behavioral science or mathematics electives; humanities electives.
 
General education coursework taken for credit will be accepted under the same provisions as pass.
 
Advanced Placement (AP) Credit
Saint Luke’s College of Health Sciences will grant credit for College Board Advanced Placement Examinations that are applicable to certain general education courses required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
 
College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
CLEP credit will be granted only in the areas of selected subject examinations and applicable to certain general education courses required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
 
Credit by Examination (CBE)
Credit by Examination (CBE) is accepted for general education prerequisites and RN-BSN core courses — please also see the CLEP Examination policy for prerequisites. Students must meet test benchmark or equivalent to earning college credit towards degree completion.
CBE does not carry a letter grade and is not calculated in the grade point average. No more than nine hours of CBE and/or credit by prior learning may be earned for nursing courses. There is a $100 non-refundable fee assessed for CBE regardless of the outcome. The fee includes a practice test, two official tests and testing center time. Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the College. Test availability is subject to vendor supply and may change without notice.
 
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) will be considered when the transferability of a course cannot be determined by established means and for the following: continuing education credits, education and training programs in non-collegiate organizations, military training and experience, specialty certifications and others on a case by case basis. The method for CPL is a portfolio assessment against established course objectives.
 
CPL does not carry a letter grade and is not calculated in the grade point average. No more than nine hours of CPL and/or credit by exam may be earned for nursing courses. There is a $100 non-refundable fee assessed for the portfolio assessment regardless of the decision. Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the College.
